Nineveh Mission: the story behind the name

In the book of Jonah, in the Bible, we can read about how God called Jonah to go to the people of Nineveh to call them to follow after Him. Jonah did not want to go, in fact, Jonah tried just about everything he could to not go. God kept calling Him. The people of Nineveh were known for being violent people. Today we would compare the people of Nineveh to modern day terrorist groups. God calling Jonah to go to Nineveh is like God calling someone to go straight into a terrorist group to share the Gospel, but God just loved the people of Nineveh. He loved them so much that he was sending Jonah to them so that they could have the opportunity to follow Him. Jonah ended up being swallowed by a big fish and was spit out from the sea onto the land of Nineveh (modern day Iraq). Jonah finally went to Nineveh, to reach the unreachable, and Jonah saw the entire nation of Nineveh repent and follow after God. Every single person chose to follow God in one day! We believe God can do it again. “Nineveh Mission” is dedicated to reaching the unreachable. We are willing to go to the “Ninevehs” of today so that we can see entire nations changed and choosing to follow God. When the people of Nineveh heard how God was calling them back to Him, they had an opportunity to follow God and the moment they said “yes” to Him was a moment that we can see an entire nation redeemed. In that moment their lives and eternity changed forever. This story has marked us all, and we want to see the redemption of entire nations happening, just like it happened in Nineveh.

God is calling nations, just like He called Nineveh back to Him. We hear stories all the time about how Muslims are having dreams where they are meeting Jesus face-to-face. In one particular story, a Muslim girl had reoccurring dreams where Jesus would come sit with her and have tea with her. When a missionary told her about Jesus, she quickly realized that the person that the missionary was describing was the same person who was having tea with her in her dreams. God is encountering people all over the world, He is calling people into relationship with Him. He is calling us, “Nineveh Mission”, to reach the unreached and we believe what was done in Nineveh will be done again.

So, as a mission, we will go until every last nation has had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. We want to reach the unreachable of the world. We will be going into nations that have not been reached, nations that have no churches planted, and nations who have never had or read a Bible. We want to reach the unreachable and we dedicate our lives to this very purpose.
